Celebrating 45 Years at Hy-Capacity

This is a historical year for Hy-Capacity. 2023 marks 45 years of operation. 45 years! Recently, we celebrated as a company at our headquarters and main manufacturing facility in Humboldt, Iowa. We had a company lunch where we shared memories of our time working here and the people that made it possible. In attendance were our local team members, as well as CEO Steve Olson and his wife Judy.

We spent our time together playing games and going through photos saved from the past 45 years in business. It was good to see familiar faces from the past and honor their presence in Hy-Capacity’s history.

Speaking of history, let’s take a trip back in time, 45+ years ago.

Hy-Capacity Founder, James "Scratch" Olson

Prior to Hy-Capacity’s founding in 1978, James “Scratch” Olson was rolling up his sleeves in his garage repair shop in Bode, Iowa. It was here that Scratch took existing tractor parts and beefed them up to give local farmers “higher-capacity” parts that could handle the growing needs of their machines.

Hy-Capacity got its start as a remanufacturer of Agricultural Clutches, Water Pumps and Torque Amplifiers (TA’s). As a company, we owe a lot to these initial parts, especially the Clutch. Over the years, Hy-Capacity has expanded product lines to include new items such as Tractor Seats and Cab Kits, Hydraulic Pumps, Air Conditioning items, Front End / Front Axle parts, LED Lights and more. Our parts fit a wide variety of agricultural equipment including AGCO, Case IH, International Harvester, John Deere, Kubota, Mahindra, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, and many others.

Today, we are still a family-owned business that is connected to our community. We believe that strong Core Values are the foundation for creating an environment that benefits and enriches our customers, our vendors, and our employees.

At Hy-Capacity, we are guided by values that are essential to us. These values define who we are, what we do, the way we do it and what we, as a company, aspire to in our daily actions. We strive to apply these values in the relationships we develop, as well as guide our interactions, decisions, and leadership.

We have 4 main Core Values at Hy-Capacity: Accountability, People, Commitment to Others, and Teamwork. We hold ourselves accountable for our actions and results. We care about people and treat them with respect and compassion. We have a commitment to serve others, and value honesty and integrity in all our relationships. We challenge ourselves to grow by focusing on continuous improvement and embracing change.
